The famous Woodchips BBQ restaurant in downtown Lapeer will be hosting its 5th annual Christmas Meals dinner.
The event will take place at the Woodchips BBQ restaurant located at 315 W. Nepessing St., Lapeer, MI on Christmas Day from 1 PM to 4 PM.
Woodchips has been a highly involved business in the Lapeer community and is widely respected by their customers. When owner Pat Hingst was asked why he puts on this event, he described how much he loves to give back to the community.
“The world is a better place when we can bring positivity and creative gifts into the world and share it with others, be the change you want to see,” Hingst said to the Tribune.
Hingst went on to explain that everyone is excited for this event and they will open the entire restaurant and have anywhere from 5 to 10 members of their staff participate along with volunteers from the community.
Whether someone needs a warm Christmas dinner or just needs a place to be with others on Christmas, this event is an option for them.
Woodchips plans on preparing anywhere from 250 to 300 meals this year. This is a significant increase from last year’s meals, which were estimated to be around 200.
Jessica Harold is the Marketing Director of Woodchips, and the co-owner of Kookys N Cream, which is helping sponsor the event. Harold is a Detroit native and described how much she appreciates living in a tight knit community like Lapeer. She believes the people are really what make this community so special.
Harold went on to say, “Lapeer is a special place, there is something in the air here. The people here are like extended family. This event helps to close out the year and bring in a new year with good vibes.”
Woodchips plans to continue this event in the coming years.
Additional volunteers are needed for this event and families are encouraged to participate. Contact Woodchips for more details.
