On Friday Feb. 2, around 9am Lapeer City Police arrested a suspect in connection with a murder that was committed in Calhoun County. The suspect was apprehended in the drive that separates Tractor Supply Company (TSC) and Walmart off Imlay City Rd in Lapeer.
Lapeer Central Dispatch received information from St. Clair County that the suspect was possibly at TSC in Lapeer to buy a rope. Lapeer City Police were told the suspect was driving a white Ford Edge with a Michigan license plate. Police spotted the suspect in the TSC parking lot in the reported vehicle.
Lapeer Central Dispatch called the TSC and instructed them to lock all their doors in the possible event the suspect may flee into the store.
When police made contact with the suspect, he attempted to escape the parking lot in the vehicle and made it out to the service drive between TSC and Walmart where he was stopped and taken into custody without incident. The suspect was handed over to Battle Creek Police department and taken back to Calhoun County.
The Lapeer County Sheriff’s department and Metamora Police department were also called in for assistance in apprehending the subject.
Why the suspect came to the TSC in Lapeer to purchase a rope is unknown at this time.
No other details have been released since this is an active investigation by an outside police department.
