Managing Winter Sickness
It’s that time of year again! I’m talking about all those bugs hanging around. Not the kind that attack your gardens, but the ones that attack your immune system. Let me share personal observations and feedback from family and friends of some suggested immune boosters. Remember an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
The first line of defense is a good group of vitamin supplements taken consistently such as Vitamin D3, Zinc, and Vitamin C. Also, be sure to check out N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC), a conditionally essential amino acid.
Next are some whole food options. I’ve recently discovered Fire Cider (homesteadandchill.com or Pinterest.) This infused liquid drink may include a wide variety of natural food sources and is packed full of health benefits.
Another recent discovery is Fermented Garlic (growforagecookferment.com.) This option utilizes the powerful sulfur compounds of garlic combined with the antibacterial and antioxidant properties of honey. A longtime favorite of mine is Kombucha, an ancient fermented black tea rich in probiotics. This is a natural way to ingest these microbial supplements improving microbial balance and enhancing immune response.
Also, check out Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) 3%. This chemical compound contains an extra oxygen molecule compared to water making it a potent antiseptic liquid that kills germs. Use it as a nasal spray and an oral wash by gargling. Suggested link for more information is ncbi.nim.nih.gov>pmc>articles>PMC7308628.
Lastly, Fresh Air! It’s free and readily available. Regardless of the time of year, establish an outdoor routine even if stepping out onto a porch or patio. Fresh air is rich in oxygen which is vital to our bodies improving our sense of well-being, lung function, and immune system to name a few. In contrast, stale air breeds bacteria and viruses.
I’ll end with some words of wisdom. We are each uniquely created with a blueprint for which our body functions best. Explore and discover the right combination of immune boosters for you. It may take some time, but I believe it is worth it.
