At 8:45 PM, just 30 minutes after leaving a minor garage fire, Lapeer firefighters heard their tones drop for a second call to a fully engulfed barn fire in the 1400 block of Haines Rd. Mayfield Township in Lapeer.
They arrived along with Arcadia Twp. Fire to find the 30 x 40 metal pole barn fully engulfed in flames.
Initial reports were of two vehicles inside as well as a camper a couple of feet from the structure.
According to authorities, everything inside the barn and the barn itself were a total loss, while the camper sustained heat damage.
Apparently, the roof of the metal structure collapsed quickly. Firefighters had difficulty because there were no fire hydrants nearby. Water had to be shuttled nearly 2 miles to the fire. At 9:16pm, Deerfield Fire was called for additional manpower to assist in the fire.
Multiple eyewitnesses said they heard at least 4 loud booms, and immediately investigated, then called 911 immediately thereafter. No one was injured as result of the fire.
